Phillip R. McCorkle

Phillip R. McCorkle is the managing partner of McCorkle, Johnson & McCoy, LLP. A native of Savannah, Mr. McCorkle has built a respected and established reputation in the areas of real estate acquisition and development, zoning, land use, business law and construction law.

Mr. McCorkle has extensive experience in the areas of land use and zoning and has worked with countless landowners and developers addressing complicated municipal issues before various local government bodies, including the Savannah City Council, Chatham County Commission, Chatham-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Savannah Historic Review Board. Mr. McCorkle assists his clients in all phases of commercial real estate development, from contract negotiation, acquisition and due diligence, through the process of overcoming zoning and subdivision issues, to construction and lease or sale. Additionally, he regularly negotiates and drafts construction contracts, including, AIA contracts.

Admitted to practice in the state of Georgia in 1975, Mr. McCorkle is a member of the Savannah Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia. Mr. McCorkle has earned the esteemed AV rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings. He has spoken on various real estate and homebuilding topics, including “The Real Estate Sales Contract,” Real Estate Practice and Procedure, ICLE, 1987; and “Successfully Representing Developers in Neighborhood Zoning Battles,” Real Property Law Institute, ICLE, 1993.

He began his law career with Lee & Clark and shortly thereafter opened his own legal practice. In 1980, he partnered with Carl S. Pedigo to form McCorkle & Pedigo, which is now McCorkle, Johnson & McCoy.

Mr. McCorkle received his B.A. degree from Armstrong State College (now Armstrong Atlantic State University). He served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as part of the Army Security Agency. After his tour of duty he returned to his studies and received his J.D. from the University of Georgia Law School.

Outside the law offices, Mr. McCorkle plays an active role in the community. Mr. McCorkle serves on the Counsel for the Realtors Commercial Alliance and the Savannah Board of Realtors. He is a member of Savannah Christian Church and the Salvation Army Board of Directors.
