Robert L. McCorkle, III
A Savannah native, Robert L. McCorkle, III is a partner in the firm. His practice focuses in the areas of real estate, land use, business and association law.
Mr. McCorkle’s real estate practice includes the representation of buyers, sellers, developers and lenders in all types of commercial property acquisitions, sales and financings. He also has extensive experience creating and reforming residential, commercial, industrial and mixed use condominiums and covenanted developments. Mr. McCorkle represents both landlords and tenants in lease negotiations and has handled landlord-tenant disputes, including collection matters. Additionally, Mr. McCorkle is real estate counsel to the Georgia Ports Authority and the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority, through his appointments as a Special Assistant Attorney General (SAAG).
Mr. McCorkle works closely with small businesses in addressing all formation, operation, governance and contracting needs in his business law practice. Mr. McCorkle has also guided many individual owners and shareholders through a myriad of business dissolutions as well as asset and stock sales. His clients include corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships, as well as non-profit organizations.
Mr. McCorkle represents numerous condominium and neighborhood associations. He provides full service counsel to his association clients, including handling corporate governance matters, declaration interpretation, declaration and bylaw amendments, covenant and rule enforcement issues and collection matters.
Admitted in Georgia and South Carolina, Mr. McCorkle is a member of the Savannah Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the State Bar of South Carolina and the American Bar Association. Mr. McCorkle was recently recognized by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of “The Georgia 500”, Georgia’s 500 Most Influential Leaders. In 2015 he was named as one of Georgia Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite for the areas of Business Law and Corporate Law. In 2014, he was named as one of the Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 in the State of Georgia by The Daily Report and was also selected by Atlanta Magazine as a Georgia Rising Star Super Lawyer in 2009-2011 and 2014-2017, and a Super Lawyer in 2019-2021. His seminars and speaking engagements include “Law of Easements: Legal Issues and Practical Consideration in Georgia”, Lorman Education Services, 2008, and “Condominium Lecture Series: 5 Things Every Condo Association Board Member Should Know”, 2013.
Mr. McCorkle began his legal career as an associate in the Atlanta offices of Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, PLLC and Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP. His practice areas included real estate, finance, secured transactions and capital markets. Mr. McCorkle joined McCorkle, Johnson & McCoy in 2005.
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business, Mr. McCorkle was a member of the business honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma. He obtained his J.D., cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law and served as an articles editor for the Georgia Law Review.
Mr. McCorkle takes pride in his community involvement. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Savannah Community Foundation, Goodwill of Southeast Georgia and on the Advisory Board of Truist Bank. Mr. McCorkle is a Past-President and charter member of the Metropolitan Savannah Rotary Club and is also a member of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce and the Realtors Commercial Alliance. In the past he has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of The Savannah Downtown Business Association, The Living Vine, the Board of Trustees of St. Andrew’s School and as a member and Past-President of the Emerging Leaders Committee of the Savannah Community Foundation. He and his wife and two children are members of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church. ++
